The funding will be provided for the construction of much-needed bathroom and changeroom facilities.

Mr Brown said that Mareeba Cricket Club members currently have to go down the road to use facilities.

“There are all kinds of issues they’re dealing with. They’ve got no toilets or changerooms. When they go down the road to use facilities, they often find themselves locked out, and there are obviously safety issues with younger players having to leave the grounds,” Mr Brown said.

The announcement has been welcomed by club members, who are also in discussions with the Mareeba Shire Council on extending sewerage to the club. “This funding announcement demonstrates my commitment and the LNP’s commitment to fixing local issues. This project will benefit hundreds of club members.

The men, women and junior cricketers will finally have the vital facilities they need to continue enjoying their sport.” Mr Brown said that the addition of adequate facilities for the club will attract more people to the sport and bring more cricket matches to Mareeba.

“This project will create local construction jobs. The LNP has a real plan to get people back to work and boost regional economies,” Mr Brown said.

“Labor has let down Far North Queenslanders. We need to change the government on October 31 to stand up for the needs of our local communities.”

“When Queensland is building, Queensland is working.”
