Lions defeat Mareeba 1-0
LEICHHARDT Lions returned home with a valuable three points last Saturday night after a disciplined defensive performance earned them a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mareeba United at Borzi Park.

The visitors arrived determined to make the most of their opportunities and were rewarded in the 28th minute when former state league player Bronson Koppen found the breakthrough.
Mr Koppen finished calmly to give the Lions a lead they would defend with great determination for the remainder of the contest.
Knowing Mareeba would respond strongly on home soil, Leichhardt remained organised across the park, denying the Bulls time and space in the attacking third.
The Lions’ backline worked tirelessly to repel repeated attacks, while their midfield maintained composure and limited the hosts’ ability to create clear scoring opportunities.
Although the Bulls enjoyed spells of possession, Leichhardt never lost their defensive shape and showed the resilience required to secure an important away victory.
The result highlighted the Lions’ ability to grind out wins in difficult conditions, combining disciplined defending with clinical finishing when it mattered most.
Claiming all three points at Borzi Park provides another boost to Leichhardt’s campaign and reinforces the side’s credentials as a team capable of matching it with any opponent.
The Lions will take plenty of confidence from the performance as they continue their push up the FQPL Far North ladder.
The Lions play host to Edge Hill United at Jeff Pezzutti Park this Saturday. The match kicks off at 7pm.
