Let’s get partying
PORT Douglas Carnivale officially kicks off on Friday 22 May, with The Longest Lunch at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas, serving up a showcase of local produce and award-winning cuisine along the resort’s iconic palm-lined entryway.
Later that afternoon, the famous Macrossan Street Parade will take over the town centre from 6.30pm, with the theme ‘ancient wonders’ set to inspire a colourful display of floats, costumes, dancers and performers.
Fireworks will launch from a barge on the water, with the park areas in and around Rex Smeal Park offering the best vantage point.
Three days of live music with Savannah Sounds begins that afternoon with Sneaky Sound System to headline the night with a 9.30pm performance.
Families can get the party started early with Sideshow Alley open at Market Park for rides and amusements from this Wednesday.
On Saturday 23 May, Four Mile Beach transforms into a playground for The Tin Shed’s Family Beach Day, featuring sand sculpting, water sports with Windswell, skydive displays, family games and live entertainment on the beach.
Over at Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort, the Temple of Fire poolside party will heat up the evening with DJ Sapphire, saxophonists and fire performances. The after dark magic continues with Tropic Lights, as Sugar Wharf is transformed with colourful projections created by Culture Mechanics.
Music lovers will head to Rex Smeal Park across Friday, Saturday and Sunday for Savannah Sounds.
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said Port Douglas Carnivale was a celebration for all ages, bringing the community together and showcasing the best of the region to interstate visitors.
“We expected 4000 people and we definitely got that through the gates (last year),” he said.
