Legacy wellbeing program launched
FAR North Queensland Legacy (FNQ Legacy) is launching a proven pilot program to foster connection and wellbeing for military families.

Far North Queensland is home to one of Australia’s largest veteran communities, with thousands of military families across the region, many of them raising children, caring for injured partners or navigating life on their own.
FNQ Legacy is answering the need with the continuation of its Legacy House Pilot Program, now based at RSL Queensland’s veterans and families wellbeing centre at 280–286 Sheridan Street, North Cairns.
“The pilot showed us that Legacy families and veterans in FNQ aren’t just looking for services, they’re looking for a place where people understand. This program gives them that.” said FNQ Legacy executive officer Rebecca Milliner.
She said the pilot launched in February 2025 and over the span of 10 months served 658 participants, including 183 veterans and 463 family members and carers.
The formal evaluation found the program a massive success in improving social connection, reducing isolation, raising awareness of available services and strengthening referral pathways.
The veterans and families wellbeing centre provides a welcoming environment with flexible workshop areas allowing activities and projects to continue across sessions without pressure to finish in one sitting.
Regular program days are Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am–2:30pm and will include:
Drop-in and wellbeing social sessions
Activities include trivia, art, music bingo and floral arranging
School holiday activities for families
Free parking on site.
The launch was held on Thursday 28 May.
