Learn how to be greener
CAIRNS Ecofiesta will return to Munro Martin Parklands on Sunday 21 June, bringing a full day of sustainability-focused activities, workshops and entertainment to the city.
The free event will run from 10am to 6pm and feature live entertainment, hands-on educational workshops, a green tech expo and sustainable living displays, along with an appearance by celebrity gardening presenter Costa Georgiadis.
Set against the backdrop of the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest, the festival promotes sustainable living in the tropics through practical ideas and community initiatives.
Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said Ecofiesta highlighted the community’s role in protecting the region’s natural environment.
“Ecofiesta is all about bringing people together to explore simple, achievable ways we can reduce our environmental impact while still enjoying everything our tropical lifestyle has to offer,” Cr Eden said.
“This event creates a fun and welcoming space where residents and visitors can discover new ideas, hear from experts, and see firsthand how sustainability can be incorporated into everyday life.”
The festival will feature more than 80 sustainability-focused market stalls, food and coffee vans, community groups and exhibitors, as well as children’s activities and live music performances throughout the day.
“From renewable technologies and waste reduction to gardening, conservation and community initiatives, there is something for everyone to take away and be inspired by,” Cr Eden said.
This year’s event also coincides with Cairns’ 150th anniversary celebrations and marks 11 years since Ecofiesta began.
“2026 is a special year for Cairns, with the city celebrating 150 years and Ecofiesta marking 11 years of bringing the community together to celebrate sustainability, our natural environment and the unique lifestyle of the Far North,” Cr Eden said.
“Ecofiesta has grown into one of Cairns’ signature community events, and we’re looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to Munro Martin Parklands for the celebrations, while supporting a more sustainable future for Far North Queensland.”
The event is expected to attract thousands of residents and visitors as Cairns Regional Council continues to promote sustainability and environmental awareness across the region.
