It will be alleged the woman was driving a white Toyota station wagon along Varley Street around 11.30pm when she collided with the rear of white Ford sedan.

The woman then failed to stop and continued towards the Captain Cook Highway with significant damage to the front of her vehicle.

It will be further alleged she continued to drive dangerously along both Captain Cook Highways and the Western Arterial Road, excessively speeding through road works and at one stage driving into a cane field.

A short time later police located the vehicle stationary in the middle of the Western Arterial Road.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested and transported to Cairns Police Station where she was subjected to a secondary breath test.

The woman returned an alleged reading of 0.116 per cent BAC.

She was later charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while affected by an intoxicating substance and failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash.

She is scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 23.
