Vaccination boost to Northern Beaches
The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) opens today a new community COVID-19 vaccination centre at James Cook University (Smithfield) campus.
The new clinic will open in A2 Block next to the Dental Clinic.
The new clinic will be able to provide 300 COVID vaccination on a daily basis, easing the pressure on the two existing vaccination clinics in Cairns.
CHHHS Vaccine Program Executive Director, Don Mackie said there was a need for a Northern Beaches based vaccination Clinic.
“We were hearing people from the Northern beaches wre driving as far as Mossman to get vaccinated, so it was clear we needed another community hub and this collaboration with JCU made sense as the best choice.”
To date the CHHS has administered more than 50,000 doses of the COVID vaccine.
The new clinic will open Friday, Saturday and Sunday initially. Pending adequate supply and additional trained staff the operating hours will increase.
Booking are essential and no walk-in appointments are available at the Smithfield clinic.
