Teen arrested over multiple property offences

Yesterday, Far North detectives arrested and charged a 12-year-old Manunda boy following an ongoing investigation into multiple property offences between March 14 and March 17.

The alleged offences include several burglaries and attempted burglaries throughout the Cairns region, including the burglary of a Bayview Heights home on March 14, in which entry was forced into a Honeysuckle Street residence with property stolen including keys, a Honda carry bag and cash.

Police will allege the boy used a set of keys to steal a vehicle from the garage, ramming the wall and door in order to exit.

Police will further allege on March 17, entry was gained into a Holly Street house where a wallet, bank cards, keys and a vehicle were stolen with the vehicle located in Edge Hill later that day.

The alleged offending occurred throughout Mooroobool, Bayview Heights and Edge Hill.

At around 12.30pm yesterday (March 18) police located and arrested the boy.

He was later charged with a total of 16 offences including four counts of burglary, three counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted enter dwelling and one count each of stealing, enter dwelling, enter premises with intent, wilful damage and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The boy was denied police bail and will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court at a later day.
