The first will take place on December 13 and the second will take place on January 17. from 9am to 12 noon, starting at the lawn near Muddy’s.

For safety, participants are asked to bring their own gloves, be sun smart and wear enclosed shoes.

“More than five trillion pieces of plastic are currently floating in our oceans,” said Sea Shepherd Cairns Marine Debris coordinator Tamsin Shepherd.

“A hundred thousands marine animals are injured and killed through entanglement, suffocation and ingestion each year.

“The best solution is to refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle plastic waste – but the next best thing is to help clean up our shorelines.”
