LNP to invest $500,000 to restore historic Headrick Grandstand back to its former glory
LNP candidate for Cairns Sam Marino today announced an LNP government will invest $500,000 to restore the Headrick Grandstand back to its former glory.
Mr Marino said the Cairns Show is our city’s biggest community event and it’s the biggest regional show in the nation.
“Without doubt the historical Headrick Grandstand is a focal point of the Cairns Show and numerous other events held throughout the year,” Mr Marino said.
“However, the current deteriorating condition of the grandstand prevents the show association from securing opportunities to hold more events.
“That is why an LNP government will invest $500,000 to restore the Hardrick Grandstand back to its former Glory".
Mr Marino said throughout the year more than 250,000 community members use the Cairns Showgrounds through various events and functions.
“This investment will allow the show society to secure more opportunities, hold more community-based events and continue its amazing work in supporting more than 40 local community groups, organisations and schools,” he said.
“This much-needed project will create local jobs and we will ensure local companies, not Brisbane-based companies, are afforded work on the grandstand.
“The only way to ensure the restoration of the Headrick Grandstand is change the government on October 31.”
Cairns Show Association secretary Carmern Ferreira welcomed the funding commitment and said she looked forward to seeing the long-overdue restoration project become a reality.
“We have been working closely with Sam Marino on this project for a number of months now and it’s fantastic to see Sam be able to secure this funding commitment for us,” Ms Ferreira said.
“Sam has always been a big supporter of the Show Association and this commitment means a lot to very many people.”
