The prestigious QS World University subject rankings mark JCU as being in the top 100 in the world in three areas: Earth & Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Hospitality & Leisure Management.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Biggs said the results confirm JCU’s status as a highly competitive, research-intensive university.

“JCU delivers ground-breaking, internationally recognised research, and these rankings confirm that we perform very strongly when compared to the world’s best universities,” Professor Biggs said.

QS also ranks JCU in the top 150 of the world’s universities in Geology, Archaeology, and Agriculture & Forestry.

“We are being judged in a field containing larger, older universities worldwide. To have achieved these results is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work of JCU’s academics,” said Professor Biggs.

Professor Biggs said JCU is proud to be regionally based and privileged to offer worldclass education to the people of the tropics and beyond.

“I am committed to seeing JCU to go from strength to strength in the years to come, and this is another marker showing us heading in the right direction,” he said.

Noah Enrique Thomas is studying a Bachelor of Business and Environmental Science (Aquaculture major) at JCU.

“Witnessing JCU’s ranking soar is a proud moment for me as a university student. This achievement reflects the quality of work JCU has produced and the way other institutions perceive JCU,” Mr Thomas said.

The rankings were produced from an analysis of more than 14.7 million unique papers, producing close to 96 million citations, with 1,543 institutions ranked across 51 subjects in five broad subject areas.
