The Mission Beach Town Centre, located along Porter Promenade, is the central precinct of the Mission Beach area and encompasses restaurants, shops, professional offices, dwelling houses, dwelling units, roadside stalls, caravan parks, parks, and foreshore areas.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor Mark Nolan said the redevelopment of the Mission Beach village green tourism area and adjacent Porter Promenade, will create a vibrant space to live, work, shop, dine, invest and experience.

“This project is linked strongly our Corporate Plan and is about Council working in partnership with the Community to enhance and promote pride in and live-ability of in our region,” said Mayor Nolan.

The Communication and Engagement Plan for the project has been developed to guide activities during the detailed design and construction phase. It provides a summary of a more in-depth engagement strategy, identifying key stakeholders, project negotiables and non-negotiables, level of engagement proposed and outlines key messages.

To reach the identified stakeholders at various levels, several different methods of engagement have been identified. Methods include, letter drops, stakeholder meetings, one-on-one consultation sessions, a dedicated project webpage, project advertising and social media.

These methods, along with others, focus on building strong community relationships and may be repeated throughout the duration of the project.

Through implementing the Communication and Engagement Plan the goal is to:

• Create strong community involvement.

• Ensure stakeholders feel heard and involved in the design of the community space (negotiables).

• During construction, directly impacted stakeholders, such as business owners, are informed and up to date with planned works.

• The community agrees the project delivers a space that is authentic to Mission Beach.

• The community agrees that the project meets business and community needs.
