Douglas Shire Council's CEO, Mark Stoermer has announced he is ready to move onto a new adventure. Stoermer commenced with Council in 2018 with a three year contract as CEO.

Stoermer notified Council he would not be considering a renewal of his contract forcing Councillors to appoint Governance Manager Juanita Warner as Acting CEO until the position is filled and formalise the processes that would be involved for the changeover to a new CEO.

Reflecting on his time with Council Stoermer was upbeat.

“The past three years has been a fascinating journey and I am really grateful to have met some amazing people in Douglas Shire,” he said.

“Upon the completion of this termed contract, I have decided that now is the right time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life.”

“I would like to thank all of the wonderful Council staff, the residents and ratepayers of Douglas Shire, and all Councillors over the last three years.”

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr thanked Mr Stoermer for his dedicated service to the Douglas Shire community.

“I personally have really enjoyed working with Mark who was a great asset to me as a new Mayor whilst we worked through some very challenging times brought about by COVID as well as the day-to-day operations of the organisation,” he said.

“On behalf of Councillors and staff, I would like to thank Mark for his commitment to his work, his team and the local community, and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

Council has indicated will engage an external recruitment agency to conduct a search for its next CEO.
