Kingswood ‘holden’ on to their past at rodeo grounds
MULTI-PLATINUM and ARIA-nominated powerhouse Kingswood are returning to their roots with their latest single, ‘Lovin’ A Girl’ and audiences will get a taste when the band hits the stage at Savannah in the Round next month.

Known as one of the hardest working bands in Australian music, Kingswood delivered 120 shows across two laps of the country last year in their trusty tour bus Peggy.
For frontman Fergus Linacre, life on the road continues to shape their sound.
“There are plenty of little audio recordings I’ve made where you can hear the engine of the bus behind it, because I’ve had an idea and gone up the back and knocked out a couple of little audio notes,” he told Cairns Local News.
“Being on the road gives you so many stories and feelings. We genuinely love it.”
The new single reflects a conscious shift toward country rock, a sound that was rekindled during the pandemic’s stillness.
“During COVID, I wanted to listen to music that felt familiar and warm – Neil Young, Johnny Cash. That’s probably what incepted into the kind of music we wanted to make,” Mr Linacre said.
Kingswood’s upcoming album, set for release in 2026, is shaping up to be their most cohesive body of work yet.
“This has been a real deliberate project of making an album where all the songs are a part of a family– I’m very excited for this record to come out,” Mr Linacre explained.
Part of Kingswood’s enduring success comes from the unlikely pairing of Mr Linacre’s punk and rock background with guitarist Alex Laska’s classical and jazz training.
“Al taught me an enormous amount about music theory – and I might have taught him that sometimes there are no rules,” Mr Linacre said.
The band’s journey goes all the way back to schoolyard days in Melbourne, when Mr Linacre and Mr Laska formed their first group, Sweet Garlic, at age 12. “I think I make that kid proud,” Mr Linacre reflected. “I think he’d be pretty happy with where he ended up.”
