Kids have a go at junior cricket
THE Port Douglas Muddies are looking to build the next generation of junior cricketers, hosting a successful ‘come and try day’ ahead of the upcoming cricket season.
Hosted by Douglas Cricket, the afternoon provided an opportunity for young players of all experience levels to get involved, pick up a bat and ball and experience what junior cricket with the Muddies is all about.
The session was designed to be fun, welcoming and engaging, with players moving through a variety of skill stations throughout the afternoon.
From batting and bowling activities to games designed to introduce the fundamentals of cricket, there was plenty on offer for newcomers and returning players alike. Rather than focusing solely on competition, the come and try day gave participants the chance to develop their skills while enjoying the social side of the sport.
The Muddies are hoping that the relaxed format will encourage children who may have never played organised cricket before to give the sport a go, while also providing existing junior players with an opportunity to reconnect with teammates ahead of the new season.
Following the positive turnout at the first session, the Muddies have already organised a second come and try day, with the club inviting more aspiring young cricketers to get involved.
The next session will take place on Monday 28 September, with the Muddies hoping to see another strong turn-out from families across the region.
