A graphic novel about a boy helping the characters of his favourite app find a way back into their game defeating villains or ‘poo heads’ in the process has now sold 1000 copies and has been stocked in 450 school libraries across the country.

This is only the beginning of the journey for the two young authors under the pen name –The Wright Bros – who have two more books in the making.

“We were reading comics and asked our mum if we could create our own,” Carter, 9, said.

“Our first book took two months. We wrote and drew in the morning and after school and on weekends,” Marlow, 8, said. “We felt excited and famous.”

The business mind behind the success of Poo Heads is Maddi Wright, mum of the boys, who worked behind the scenes to get the project illustrated, printed and distributed.

“My background is in running businesses and entrepreneurship, so when the boys said to me that they wanted to write a book, we all sat down as a family and discussed the possibilities of turning that idea into reality and reminded them it would be hard and consistent work,” she said.

“We started a storyboard at home and continued to add to it every day. The boys would wake up at 6am and work on it before school and they’d work on it after school.

“We found an illustrator online – Stu Thornton from WA – who wanted to go on this journey with us and we came up with our first goal – sell the book at their school fair – so we worked hard to get it produced and printed. The whole process started in March last year and we sold our first books in August.”

Mrs Wright says what makes Poo Heads special is that it's written by kids for the actual enjoyment of other kids.

“I don’t think the boys know the gravity that their book is having,” she said.

“They’ve reached regional and rural schools across the country. I don’t think they understand the impact they have on other kids. I label it as peer inspiration.

“Kids are loving it and teachers are loving it because it’s quite an easy read. I think it’s got jokes in there that kids understand.”
