Ms Knight, who was captain of the reserves team last year, led the side “really strongly and really well” and “captained us to a final”, according to coach Monique Ward. She now steps into the role as the team moves into the premiers.

“I am proud and honoured to lead such a powerful and incredible team of ladies again this year and I can’t wait to see what we achieve this season,” Ms Knight said.

Ms Ward said Ms Knight was the clear choice to continue leading the group.

The club has also confirmed its first major signing for the premier women’s squad – Ella Buie.

Ms Buie’s junior football background includes TSP U14/16 Girls, state U15 Shadow Squad and representing the Charles Perkins Indigenous XI at Nationals. She was also selected for Peninsula U15 Girls and Cairns High Bill Turner Trophy before being sidelined by injury.

As part of her development, Ms Buie spent 13 days in Valencia, Spain, receiving professional goalkeeper tuition and training with the Valencia CF Academy. Ms Ward said the club was pleased Ms Buie had chosen to join the Rangers.
