The 48-year-old stepped onto the world stage less than a year after being crowned the very first FMG Australian 45+ Fitness Champion.

Ms Melvin said the highlight of the event wasn’t just the competition itself, but the chance to meet and share the stage with athletes from around the globe.

“It was amazing meeting so many international athletes backstage, women from all over the world who share the same passion. That was probably my favourite part. It was so inspirational,” she said.

While her category featured only three competitors, the standard was fierce, with Ms Melvin going up against seasoned athletes and professional trainers.

“I’m a full-time hairdresser, and I’ve only been bodybuilding for five years. Many of these women have been training for decades, this is their lifestyle and career. So, to be standing among them is already a huge achievement,” she said.

Despite giving her all on stage, Ms Melvin narrowly missed the world crown, finishing second.

She said the outcome had only fuelled her determination.
