Intimate trio play at the Tanks
FELIX Riebl will return to Cairns this week with a new live music project featuring fellow The Cat Empire member Ollie McGill and flamenco guitarist Richard Tedesco.

The group named Riebl Tedesco McGill will perform at Tanks Arts Centre’s Tank 5 on Friday 15 May, bringing together original music, solo material and songs from The Cat Empire catalogue in what organisers describe as an intimate performance built around storytelling and musicianship.
Mr Riebl said Cairns had played an important role throughout his career, both with The Cat Empire and with Spinifex Gum. I have had so much history in this city, with The Cat Empire since the very early days, and with Marliya of Spinifex Gum, a Cairns-based choir that’s been a huge part of mine and Ollie’s life,” Mr Riebl said.
“There is a fantastic live music culture here. Playing with this trio is more intimate than playing at an outdoor festival with The Cat Empire, but there is a lot of fire and virtuosity in the performance.
“In many ways, I get as big a kick musically playing with this line-up as I do from the rush of festival stages. There is an intensity on stage and a close connection with the audience. It should be a really special night.”
Riebl Tedesco McGill will perform at Tanks Arts Centre, Tank 5, on Friday 15 May 2026. Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7.15pm. Amber Farnan will support the performance. Tickets are available at www.bit.ly/4uAdUL0
