INNOVATION, sustainability and excellence took centre stage at the 2025 Far North Queensland Housing and Construction Awards, where the region’s most visionary builders, people and projects were celebrated for setting new benchmarks in quality and craftsmanship.

Held at the Cairns Convention Centre last Friday, the industry’s night of nights honoured the standout achievements shaping the future of construction in the region.

MyStyle Homes (QLD) took home five gongs – the highest number won by a single builder this awards season, including both excellence in home sustainability and innovation and best community accommodation for NDIS specialist disability accommodation MyKinKeraStyle. MyStyle also won display home from $400,000 up to $600,000 for MyDesiredHaven, individual home from $550,000 up to $700,000 for MySurprise and individual home from $850,000 up to $1 million for Twin Palms.

Langrell Constructions made it a triple with the prestigious Cairns Hardware house of the year award, best residential kitchen and best individual home from $1-1.5m for contemporary Redlynch beauty, Bellmere.

It was a double for Hutchinson Builders, winning the sought-after Ireland’s of Cairns project of the year award and the health facilities over $20m award for the exceptionally detailed and finished Cairns Hospital Mental Health Unit project, meeting critical community health needs.

Rounding out the major category was Affinity Designer Homes, which took out both the BUSSQ Building super president’s award and best display home up to $400,000 for the affordable and luxurious Mia Mia at Kewarra Beach.

Trailblazer and advocate for women and remote Indigenous communities, Yashmin McConachy of Bryant Building Contractors, was honoured with the women in building award, while the Bryant team celebrated winning commercial/industrial building from $15m-$30m for the McLeod St redevelopment.

Also in the individual category, leadership, mentoring younger peers and exceptional craftsmanship earned MiHaven’s Rhianna McDonald the apprentice of the year award, while Josh Hiles of Hiles Construction was recognised for making quality workmanship the foundation of his business with the rising star award.

“It’s been another challenging year, but our builders continue to rise above with unwavering commitment and craftsmanship,” Master Builders regional manager – Far North Queensland Sharon Vella said.

“The calibre of this year’s entries speaks volumes about the pride our members take in their work,” she said.

“They’re the driving force behind the region’s progress.

“With fresh investment from the state government and transformative projects like the Barlow Park Stadium upgrade for the 2032 games and improvements to the Bruce Highway and Cairns Arterial Rd, there’s a real sense of momentum building.

“And it’s our members who turn those opportunities into reality.”
