Hospital changes
THE D block entrance to Cairns Hospital from the Esplanade is now closed to allow major construction works to be carried out safely for the new helipad.

The main hospital entrance from the Esplanade will remain open.
The new rooftop helipad is a key part of the Cairns Hospital expansion and will enable patients to be transferred by helicopter more quickly, safely and with greater privacy.
A hospital spokeswoman said during construction, patients and visitors might experience temporary detours around the hospital precinct.

“Anyone attending an appointment or visiting family and friends is encouraged to allow a little extra travel time and, where possible, use the Lake Street patient pick-up and drop-off zone,” she said.
