Jenelle Gil received the award at the bank’s annual consumer division awards in Sydney.

Bank consumer chief executive Carolyn McCann said Mrs Gil was awarded for her passion in delivering exceptional service, sharing best practice and building relationships with her customers and colleagues in the community.

“Jenelle is a credit to Westpac and we’re so grateful for the passion and care she has for our customers in Cairns,” she said.

Mrs Gil said she started the bank in 1982 at age 16, as proof operator/ledger examiner, joining the Commercial Bank of Australia at Westcourt. “That same year, it merged with the Bank of New South Wales to become Westpac Banking Corporation, an exciting time that marked a significant moment in Australian banking history,” she said.

“After the merger, I was transferred to the Westpac branch on the corner of Abbott and Spence streets in Cairns, where I spent 11 years before moving across several other branches in the Cairns area.

“I’ve been in my current role as a personal banker at Earlville for the past 10 years.

“What I love most about my job is helping customers feel confident and supported in their financial decisions.

“Every day brings a new opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

“I also love coming to work and being surrounded by colleagues who are just as passionate as I am.”
