Home victories for NB1 basketball

THE Cairns Marlins and Dolphins have both opened their season with two consecutive home game victories.

After a huge off-season bringing in two championship-winning assistant coaches Joel Khalu (men) and Marcus Wong (women), the season start has been nothing short of highly anticipated.

Round one saw the Cairns sides play host to rivals Townsville Heat.

The Dolphins started their season in fashion, downing Townsville 105-73.

Cairns guard Summah Evans lead the way with 23 points, while blockbuster signing Brooke Basham finished the night with 18 of her own points.

The Marlins put on a clinic performance for their home fans with a dominant 100-68 victory after an extremely dominant second half saw them run away comfortably.

Home grown talent Kody Stattmann was the star of the show with 27 points, while Luca Yates added 22 of his own.

Round two saw even more dominance from the Cairns squads with the Dolphins thrashing South West Metro Pirates 95-49.

The Dolphins held the Pirates to only five points in the entire first quarter, setting them up to run away with a super convincing win. Fan favourite guard Mia Loyd showed out with 20 points, while Summah Evans also played a huge part adding on 19 of her own.

The Marlins trounced the Pirates 109-69.
