Help make a dream real
AS part of this year’s Legacy Week from August 31 to September 6, Far North Queensland Legacy (FNQ Legacy) is calling on the local community to help bring the creation of the $5.7 million Legacy House to life.
A week of community spirit, fundraising and remembrance is set to take place, including a dedicated fundraising hub at Cairns Central, where the public can donate, learn more about Legacy House and show their support.
FNQ Legacy executive officer Melanie Allen said it was a unique opportunity to capture powerful stories, connect with local beneficiaries and raise awareness of the vital work being done for the veteran community.
“Legacy House is a bold and compassionate initiative designed to meet the needs of over 300 veteran families across the region,” she said.
“It will offer a welcoming space for crisis support, counselling, community events and wellness services – uniting FNQ Legacy’s mission under one roof for the first time.
“Legacy House represents so much more than bricks and mortar. It’s a place where people can come for connection, for comfort and for care.
“We want every veteran’s family in Far North Queensland to know they’re not alone – and that this community stands with them.”
FNQ Legacy provides essential support to the families of veterans who have given their health or lives in service to Australia.
Serving communities from Cardwell to the Cape, FNQ Legacy is committed to honouring the legacy of our fallen by caring for those they leave behind.
For nearly 100 years, FNQ Legacy has stood beside the families of veterans – offering financial assistance, education support, mental health services and, above all, a sense of belonging.
With no comparable facility currently available in the region, Legacy House will be the first of its kind in Far North Queensland.
To make the project a reality, FNQ Legacy is seeking to raise $5.7m in funding and donations. Over $200,000 has already been raised through community support and Legacy Week will be a major step toward the goal. The end of the week will culminate in a brick giving day on Saturday, September 6, with the community encouraged to visit the fundraising hub at Cairns Central and buy a brick.
