The Kamerunga substation and powerline between Kamerunga and Woree substation are critical components that supply electricity to northern Cairns and are nearing the end of their technical life.

Powerlink is proposing to replace the overhead transmission line between Kamerunga and Redlynch, as well as building a new substation in Barron and laying an underground cable between Redlynch and Woree.

Powerlink’s project spokeswoman Rachael Maundrell said feedback was valuable “for us to understand the potential impacts of our work and helps shape its delivery”.

“Residents and members of the community are invited to a series of drop-in sessions to learn more about the project and share their feedback,” she said.

The drop-in sessions are:

  • Kangaroo Leagues Club – Thursday 27 November from 4.30-7.30pm

  • Earlville Shopping Centre – Saturday, 29 November from 9am-12 noon

  • Peace Lutheran College – Thursday, 4 December from 4.30-7.30pm.
