Guests had a colourful ball
THE Cairns Ballroom Dancers Club celebrated its annual ball with 91 guests at an “Over the Rainbow”-themed evening at the Cairns Brass Band Hall on Mulgrave Road.
This year’s event was held at a larger venue, attracting dancers from across the region and visitors from further afield.
Dancers travelled from Tully, Mossman and the Tablelands, while visitors also travelled from Hervey Bay for the annual gathering.
Cairns Ballroom Dancers Club vice-president Melissa Harwood said the event had been an enjoyable night for participants.
“We’ve just held our annual ball and while telling a friend about what a wonderful night it was,” she said.
Ms Harwood, who described herself as relatively new to ballroom dancing, said that experience was no barrier to enjoying the event.
“I’m still quite the novice when it comes to ballroom dancing, but that certainly doesn’t stop me from experiencing the sheer joy that a night like this brings,” she said.”
The annual ball brought together 91 guests at the Cairns Brass Band Hall and this year’s move to the larger venue enabled the club to host dancers and visitors from across Queensland.
“This year, we took our annual ball to a bigger venue at the Cairns Brass Band Hall on Mulgrave Road, with 91 guests joining us for an evening themed ‘Over the Rainbow’,” Ms Harwood said
The gathering also highlighted the geographical reach of the ballroom dancing community, with attendees travelling from across Far North Queensland and from Hervey Bay.
“We had dancers travel from around the region, including Tully, Mossman and the Tablelands, as well as visitors from Hervey Bay,” Ms Harwood said.
The club also documented the occasion, with Ms Harwood producing a brief video of the annual ball for the Cairns Ballroom Dancers Club’s Facebook page.
