Greener on Father’s Day
TREAT dad to a great day out and a green gift that keeps on growing at the massive Friends of the Botanic Gardens plant sale at Carnival on Collins on Father’s Day, September 7.

Held in conjunction with the annual Carnival on Collins Street Festival in Edge Hill, the plant sale will have hundreds of plants for sale on the Teak Lawn inside the main gate of Flecker Garden (near the conservatory) from 9am.
Get there early to choose from the wide selection of trees, shrubs, creepers and climbers, including the spectacular jade vine.
Trees and a variety of shrubs, including many medinilla species, aroids and understorey plants, are for sale, with prices ranging from $8.
Creepers and climbers, hanging baskets, hoyas, heliconias and gingers, potted and rhizomes are also available.
Friends volunteer Lee Ross said the friends would also be on hand to help with advice.
“So get in early and grab your green gifts – and don’t worry, you won’t have to lug your plants around all day,” she said.
“For a small donation you can leave your plants in the friends’ plant cloak room while you enjoy this annual street party.
“All funds raised by the plant sale go back into Botanic Gardens Cairns.
“Don’t miss visiting Jess Mitchell Park, the green space education food garden on Greenslopes St.
“From 9am to 1pm you can try your hand at basket weaving with Rosie Omudsen or watercolour painting with Marian Wolfs, then pop into the green space for some gardening inspiration.”
The final Cairns Festival event, Carnival on Collins is a free event held in the Tanks Arts Centre and the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct, Edge Hill.
Enjoy more than 200 market stalls, delicious local food, live music, and entertainment around every corner.
