Grants give ideas great beginnings
A REGIONAL breaking bootcamp that connected young people with leading dance instructors from across Australia and Japan is one example of how arts funding is helping bring creative opportunities to life across the Cairns region.
The North Queensland Breaking Bootcamp 2025, delivered by local artist Hung Phan, received a $6700 Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) major round two grant to provide regional young people with access to industry-level training, while fostering confidence, leadership skills and new cultural connections.
Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said projects like the bootcamp highlighted the important role the fund played in supporting local artists and strengthening community participation in the arts.
“Projects like the North Queensland Breaking Bootcamp demonstrate the positive impact the program can have for local people to learn, connect and participate in the arts,” she said.
“The program supports projects of all sizes and disciplines, helping artists and creative organisations deliver initiatives that benefit both participants and the wider community.”
Local artists, arts workers and cultural organisations are now invited to apply for grants of up to $12,000 through Regional Arts Development Fund major round one to deliver innovative arts and cultural projects across the Cairns region.
The program supports projects and programs that create vibrant arts and cultural experiences while strengthening the region's creative sector.
All applications are assessed by an independent RADF panel, comprising members of the creative industries, ensuring funding decisions are informed by industry knowledge and expertise.
Education and the Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek said the fund had an impressive track record of supporting local arts and cultural programs across Queensland communities.
“The Crisafulli government’s multi-year RADF investment provides greater funding certainty for 59 regional councils, streamlined program management and red tape reduction, while boosting the state’s vibrant arts and cultural scene,” Mr Langbroek said.
