Gimuy shines on city
CAIRNS is set to sparkle this week as the third annual Shine On Gimuy festival transforms Gimuy Boulevard along the Esplanade into a spectacular celebration of First Nations art, culture and storytelling.

Running from 16-26 October, the festival features dazzling light installations, art sculptures, animations and soundscapes, offering a free, family-friendly experience designed to showcase the creativity of both national and local First Nations artists.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to enjoy the immersive displays along the waterfront.
The festival opened with the Calling Country ceremony at sunset on Thursday, featuring acclaimed First Nations artist Judy Watson, emerging local talent, cultural producers and Dream Aloud singers. The ceremony paid tribute to Country and First Nations cultural heritage through music and performance.
Highlights this week include:
Blak Rising (17 October) – Showcasing emerging First Nations artists including Miss Kaninna, Jada Weazel, Dean Brady, Tjaka, R3B and Yirgjhilya.
Futures Summit (17 October) – Connecting young First Nations artists with mentors, industry leaders and community voices.
Dream Aloud Festival (18 October) – Celebrating Queensland music under the stars at Munro Martin Parklands.
