CHILDREN’S entertainment group The Wiggles will bring their ‘Big Little Show’ tour to Cairns next month, alongside a new music release.

The group will perform the show at the Cairns Convention Centre on 16 May, offering a smaller-scale live experience for families.
The Cairns show follows the release of their new single ‘Sparkle’, with Red Wiggle Caterina Mete saying the song drew inspiration from a major international music event.
“We were inspired by Eurovision and just some of the amazing performers that have participated over the years and that was sort of the inspo to do our own sort of take on it, I guess,” she said.
Ms Mete said the group aimed to create content that appealed to both children and parents.
“I think it’s wonderful, because being a parent myself now, it’s great when you can co-view a program with your child and you find that a lot of the Pixar films do that – they’ll throw in some adult sort of humour, which the children think is funny, but the adults are laughing in a different way,” she said.
“And I feel like our Wiggle vision episode has things that children will enjoy and there are things that the parent will enjoy, too.”
The live show will feature Anthony, Caterina and Evie Wiggle, alongside Lachy Wiggle, as well as characters Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus, Captain Feathersword, Buddy and the Tree of Wisdom. The performance will run for approximately 55 minutes and includes classic songs, audience interaction and opportunities for children and families to sing and dance.
Ms Mete said balancing the group’s legacy with evolving audiences remained important.
“I think it’s important to evolve, because obviously the parents are a different age as well, so you want to relate to how they’re bringing up their children for their age demographic, but then also, as you said, staying true to what the Wiggles’ core values are,” she said.
Reflecting on her time as the Red Wiggle, she said performing internationally had been a highlight.
“There’s been so many wonderful moments, but last year, I went to Timor Leste with UNICEF, and that’s a real moment that stands out for me, because we performed for children that didn’t know who the Wiggles were, but the shared love of music was what brought us together,” she said.
Ms Mete said she was looking forward to the Cairns show.
“I’m excited to be coming up to Cairns. Can’t wait.”
Children under 12-months-old do not require a ticket for entry but must sit on the lap of a parent or guardian.
The Cairns performance forms part of the group’s broader tour, bringing the long-running act to regional audiences in a more intimate format.
