Member for Cook David Kempton said it was “great to see that 16 community groups across Cook have received over $1 million in funding from the 2025 Super Round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. This support will make a real difference in our communities”.

Some recipients were:

  • Mossman Port Douglas Sharks – new cabinets ($20,000)

  • Mossman Horse Riding Club – facility upgrades ($95,000)

  • Douglas Sailing Club – Four Mile Beach clubroom upgrades ($65,000)

  • Mossman Golf Club – irrigation works ($65,000)

  • Mossman State High School Parents and Citizens Association – facility upgrades ($74,935.40)

  • Port Douglas Football Club – new scoreboard ($72,776).

Golf club manager Ralf Middel said the club would now be able to update tees and greens irrigation system to a wireless radio-controlled system.

“We are very pleased to get the grant as it will save our grounds staff a lot of effort compared to the old system. All the sprinklers had to be manually controlled, so this will free up time and allow more efficient use of water,” he said.

The next round of funding is anticipated in mid-January 2026 for grants up to $35,000.
