Women’s

AFTER a competition-wide bye, ‘Footy in Paradise’ resumes for its penultimate round of the 2025 home and away season.

Only two games in the women’s comp this week, but both have huge ramifications.

To start off the round, we have a good old-fashioned ‘spoon bowl’ when the Cutters host the Saints, with the loser ‘winning’ the wooden spoon this year. The season ledger sits at one thrashing apiece.

The Cutters will be hoping that their final game of the season ends in a win at home, while the Saints will be hoping their double bye gives them the edge at the death.

The second women’s game sees the Lions host the Bulldogs. The Lions are locked into third place regardless of the result, but would love to get a first victory over the Bulldogs in a potential finals match-up as the Lions look to go back-to-back.

The Bulldogs need to win to keep their minor premiership hopes alive and will not want to give the Lions a sniff coming into what is looming to be a hotly contested finals series.

Men’s

A FULL slate of games in the men’s competition this week with the game of the round seeing the Cutters host the Saints.

Both teams need a win. The Cutters need to win to have any chance of finishing second and earning a double chance come finals, while the Saints are most likely playing for their season.

A rematch of the abandoned round 8 clash which the Saints will still feel was extreme bad luck, but it will be tough to get over the reigning premiers at home.

Fans of chaos will be hoping they do, with a final round elimination final against the Dogs in round 19 looming.

Those aforementioned Dogs will be hoping the reigning premiers get the job done, but before that, they will need to take care of business on their end as they visit the very short-handed Lions.

The Dogs look most likely settled into fourth, but could creep up depending on other results.

You could forgive the Lions for hoping that season 2025 would end already, given their horrible luck with injury this year. They will still give their all for their final home game of the year, where a competitive game might be a great result.

The Manunda match-up concludes round 18 as the Tigers host the Hawks.

A repeat of the 2022 spoon bowl and how the fortunes of both these clubs have changed since then.

The Tigers look primed for a second consecutive top two finish, while the Hawks continue to count the days since their last win.

Another club curtailed by injuries and outs in the back half of the season, it would take perhaps the upset of the competition for anything other than a Tigers win at Watson’s.
