FNQ’s shining finalists
SIXTEEN Tropical North Queensland businesses have been named finalists in the 2026 Queensland Tourism Awards, including Paronella Park, Cairns Adventure Group and the Cairns Convention Centre.
This year’s finalist field showcases the extraordinary breadth of Queensland’s visitor economy, spanning accommodation, attractions, festivals, tours, food and drink experiences, visitor services, major events and destination marketing from almost every corner of the state.
The finalists have earned their place after an extensive judging program culminating in deliberations last week, with entrants required to reach a minimum scoring benchmark to progress.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) chief executive Natassia Wheeler said being named a finalist was an achievement worth celebrating.
“The finalist list is a snapshot of just how diverse and dynamic Queensland tourism is,” she said.
“We have major international drawcards alongside small regional businesses, community organisations, cultural experiences, events, accommodation providers and operators who are creating exceptional experiences right across Queensland.
“To reach this stage, entrants have had to demonstrate a high standard through their submission and the judging process. Being named a finalist means they have earned their place among some of the best tourism businesses and experiences in the state.”
The Queensland Tourism Awards recognise excellence against established industry standards, meaning finalist status does not automatically result in a medal.
“That is part of what makes these awards so meaningful,” Ms Wheeler said.
The finalists will discover who has taken home the state’s highest tourism honours when the 2026 Queensland Tourism Awards Gala is held on Friday 6 November on the Gold Coast, as part of Tourism Week.
The other Far Northern finalists are: Cape York Camping Punsand Bay, Lazy Lizard Motor Inn, Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours, Mt Mulligan Lodge, Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, Ocean Free and Ocean Freedom, Paperbark Restaurant at Cape York Peninsula Lodge, Paradise Links Resort Port Douglas, Reef House Adults Retreat, Shine On Gimuy 2025, Spirit of Freedom, Tropic Wings Cairns Tours and Charters and Wongai Beach Hotel.
