Festive art just $100
DFO CAIRNS is hosting a new exhibition designed to make local art more accessible, featuring some small artworks priced under $100.

DFO Art Gallery and the Art Society Gallery co-ordinator Janice O’Neill said the Art of Small Things exhibition was created to give gallery artists a chance to “create something, express themselves in small paintings, that sort of thing”.
The exhibition features 80 pieces from local artists, including acrylics, oils, pencil drawings, mixed media and ink. Styles range from realism to abstract, with some works incorporating resin.
Ms O’Neill highlighted Pete Marshall, who has exhibited internationally, as one of the standout artists. Other contributors include Rose Knight, Eve Jorgensen, Lorraine Amadio and Vickie Williams.
“Most people can’t afford to spend $600 or $1000 on a painting. We have some nice, little, affordable gifts for Christmas. And there’s a pretty good variety of just about every taste you could want.”
The public response to the exhibition has been positive, with several pieces already sold.
Ms O’Neill said the gallery encouraged visitors to return as new works were added over time.
The gallery relocated to shop 13, opposite Bed Bath & Table, four months ago after 17 years in other parts of the shopping centre. It hosts two small exhibition windows that rotate monthly.
The Art Society Gallery also hosts exhibitions at The Tanks and the Cairns Regional Gallery.
