The free event will take place on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October and will bring together yoga, movement, meditation, music, workshops, wellness talks and more for a weekend of health and wellbeing.

Event lead Mechel Pearson said the idea grew from a group of local practitioners workshopping ways they could support community wellbeing and resilience.

“The Port Douglas Wellness Festival is a way for the amazing, passionate and dedicated people who care about wellbeing and people’s health in our region to come together and share what they do with the community,” Ms Pearson said.

“We wanted to create a space where people can connect, learn, listen and explore the many different ways wellness can be part of their lives,” she said.

“Whether it’s about improving vitality and health, finding a new daily practice or simply satisfying a curiosity, people can come along, try something different and discover what speaks to them, completely free of charge.”

Ms Pearson said the festival had been designed for the whole community, including people who may never have attended a wellness event before.

“There will be something for everyone to explore, watch, listen to or take part in. It’s our first year and everyone involved has worked hard to offer as broad a variety of experiences as possible.

“Whether you’re looking to unwind, get active or try something different, there’s something for everyone.

“What does wellness really mean?

“It’s more than a packaged-up concept or a list of healthy habits. It can be a kind gesture, a smile from a stranger, the warmth of the sun on your skin or the magic of spotting dolphins on the horizon. Wellness is deeply personal, and its possibilities are limitless.”

Friday’s events will take place between 4pm–9pm at Dixie Park and the sugar wharf. The evening has been described as a vibrant atmosphere filled with wellness tasters, live music, food vendors and a twilight market. It will include sound baths, meditation, Qi Gong and yoga to Sea Circus performances, poi antics, harp, drumming and vocals.

Activities on Saturday will take place between 9am and 4pm at the Port Douglas Community Centre. These will include workshops, talks, a market lane and a healing hub where people can meet practitioners, ask questions and explore an eclectic mix of offerings. The day will include anthroposophy and breathwork, ice baths, exercise challenges and emotional processes.

“You don’t need to have it all figured out. Simply come with an open mind and a willingness to try something new,” Ms Pearson said.

“Small, everyday practices can create meaningful change. Making time for yourself, discovering a new perspective or connecting with others can influence how we move through life, care for our families and contribute to our community.”
