Fair full of country flair
A TWO-day grassroots festival celebrating community life and creative talent will transform Julatten later this month.
The Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair has been organised by the Let’s Grow Julatten and Mt Molloy Group and will take place on 19 and 20 September at Geraghty Park, Julatten.
The event is designed to extend and expand the legacy of the successful 2024 Festival of Flowers.
The weekend will include over 70 makers, musicians, performers, workshops, food vendors and community groups, with a two-day celebration of creativity, connection and community in Julatten.
Live music across two days will include a young artist feature with emerging musicians from Mossman, Atherton and Kuranda, together with creative workshops and demonstrations, a handmade makers’ market, food and local produce, plus community displays and activities.
Another highlight of the fair is ‘Voices of Bushy Creek’, a Festivals Australia-supported community arts project.
This project brings together community members, Kooyong aged care residents, local artists, poets and musicians to create shared artwork and original performances, involving and celebrating the community.
Saturday evening will also include dinner dance with the Carinda Christie Band.
“Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair grew from communities that already gather, share ideas and make things happen,” said co-volunteer event manager Ying Tee.
“More than an event, the fair aims to create a welcoming space where creativity, connection and collaboration can flourish, celebrating not only the talents of local makers, but also the strong bonds that tie the Mt Molloy and Julatten communities together,” she said.
Co-volunteer event manager Bianca Velder said “like the creek itself, the fair is intended as a meeting place, somewhere people can gather, share ideas and celebrate the creativity that flows through the community.”
“The Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair draws on that same grounded, practical spirit,” she said.
“Inclusive by nature, the fair belongs to everyone and brings the community together.”
Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair received a planning grant through the Regional Arts Development Fund.
