The back-to-back performances will bring the Queensland band to Tropical North Queensland as part of its long-awaited return to the stage, with Cairns securing the tour’s only regional dates.

Powderfinger said the band was looking forward to returning to the Far North to perform for local audiences.

“We all love Cairns and we’re thrilled to be able to get there on this tour,” they said.

“It’s the only regional show we’re playing and that’s thanks to the support of the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland.

“We can’t wait for locals and fans from across Australia to join us there.”

The Cairns concerts will follow four Brisbane performances at the Brisbane Showgrounds on 3, 4, 10 and 11 September 2027.

The Queensland Government supported the securing of the Cairns performances through its Mega and Strategic Events Fund, which is used to attract major events to the state.

The government expects the concerts to attract visitors from outside the region, potentially benefiting accommodation providers, hospitality venues, tourism operators and other local businesses.

However, no estimates of expected visitor numbers or economic returns have been released.

The amount of public funding committed to securing the two concerts has also not been disclosed, leaving the scale of the government’s financial contribution uncertain.

Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the concerts were expected to draw visitors to the region.

“Fans from across the country will come for Powderfinger and stay for everything Tropical North Queensland has to offer, creating real benefits for local businesses, accommodation providers and tourism operators.”

The concerts will offer Cairns businesses an opportunity to benefit from interstate and regional visitors, although the extent of that impact will depend on attendance and visitor spending.

Public ticket sales start on Monday next week through Ticketek.
