Event has runs on board
RUN Port Douglas will return to the town in 2026, with the organisers committing to the next three years through to 2028.

Following the outstanding success of the inaugural 2025 event, which attracted over 1500 participants from across Australia and overseas, the extension now cements Port Douglas as a premier destination for running events and active tourism.
Event organisers say the 2025 event exceeded all expectations, with runners and spectators embracing the unique course that showcases the region’s natural beauty.
Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the council was thrilled to secure the future of the event and build on its early success.
“Run Port Douglas has already proven to be a major drawcard for our Shire, delivering strong economic benefits while promoting health, wellbeing and our incredible natural environment,” she said.
“That’s why council decided to donate $75,000 over three years and $5000 as in-kind support.
“The organisers have estimated that the economic value to our area will be around $2.8 million.
“The opportunity to finish a race on Four Mile Beach is something truly special. It’s an experience that stays with participants long after they cross the line and it’s a key reason why this event has resonated so strongly.”
Tourism Tropical North Queensland CEO Mark Olsen said securing Run Port Douglas for the next three years was an exciting outcome for the region’s events calendar that would help to grow visitors to Tropical North Queensland.
“Sporting events help to boost interstate visitation and increasingly attract international competitors and their supporters when they have time to plan ahead” he said.
Event director Bade Stapleton said “we’re excited to build on the momentum of 2025 and continue delivering an event that is both challenging and unforgettable”.
Adding to the event’s growing reputation, Australian Olympian Andy Buchanan, the holder of the fastest marathon ever run by an Australian, has described the course as “the best half marathon course in the world,” further elevating its status on the global running stage.
