Washington set to conquer Munro Martin Parklands

THE Cairns live music scene will receive another huge boost with Munro Martin Parklands set to host Australian songstress, Washington, this October.

Fellow Australian musician Dan Sultan announced a surprise show last week, and will play to a restricted sold out crowd at the Tanks Arts Centre tonight.

The two big names are a positive step in revitalising the live music scene in the far north, post the COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Munro Martin Parklands will introduce “Social Spaces” at the October 24 show to comply with current social distancing requirements.

Friends and families wishing to share a social space will need to book their tickets as a group to be allocated a numbered space, which will be painted on the grass, where you can sit on BYO picnic rugs and/or low-set chairs.

Hailing from Brisbane, Megan Washington burst onto the Australian music scene in 2010 with her acclaimed hit record, I Believe You Liar, taking the industry by storm.

A decade of success later, Washington’s show announcement coincides with the release of her latest album, Batflowers [2020], officially released today.

“The album in full is very narrative and to me it works like the soundtrack to a musical,” Washington said.

“Aside from the actual songs, there is a lot of sound design and audio-cinema including a thunderstorm, birdsong, dreamscapes and 500 year-old church bells.”

Batflowers was written and recorded all over the world from Joshua Tree in California, Switzerland, Berlin, Adelaide, and finished during lockdown on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island).

“I also had to record some vocals inside a rental car,” Washington said.

Washington plays Munro Martin Parklands on Saturday 24 October 2020. Tickets are officially on sale 9am AEST, Friday 4 September 2020 through Ticketlink.
