Moments caught in time a hot commodity for new production

The photo albums of Italian-Aussie families might sound specific but the contents are considered hot property by JUTE Theatre Company in the production of its exciting new work, La Bella Figura.
La Bella Figura (meaning, the beautiful image) is a new musical dramedy by second-generation, Italian-Aussies and Cairns locals, Frank Dangelico and Roz Pappalardo and Kathryn Ash.
Slated for its premiere season in October 2021, the production by JUTE Theatre Company explores how the Italian concept of ‘la bella figura’ has woven its often-hilarious magic into Roz and Frank’s lives and careers.
According to Roz and Frank, ‘la bella figura’ makes its presence known in a number of ways but is essentially about pride in family and pride in heritage which sometimes means ‘keeping up appearances’ and being aware of ‘how things seem’.
Roz and Frank are keen to embed the stories of their community, of people with similar backgrounds, into their own enchanting tale, by integrating photographs into the production and set design – showcasing the time-honoured family events such as weddings and parties to baptisms and Christmases.
“We know many of you who have travelled the same path Roz and I have with family times documented in faded happy snaps stored in glory boxes under the bed and in the attics of homes around the country. We want to see them!” Frank said.
In recognition for pulling the photo boxes and cupboards apart and submitting images to the production team, JUTE has launched a competition with free tickets to the show up for grabs.
The 10 photo categories currently sought are as follows: Wedding Reception, Family Christmas, Restaurant Celebration, Young Parents with Newborn, Girl’s High School Graduation, Cane Farming Men in FNQ, Bakers and Delicatessens, Girl’s 21st Birthday Celebrations and Italian Festival with Family.
