The 10-part series features US actor Colin Donnell (Arrow, Chicago Med) plus Aussies Kylie Bracknell, Ed Oxenbould, Briallen Clarke and Wayne Blair.

The drama follows main character Paulo Keegan, a criminal mediator who flees the United States after a mediation gone wrong. Keegan assumes the identity of Reverend Mackenzie “Mack” Boyd (Colin Donnell), who finds himself trapped in ‘Clump’, Australia – a small, eccentric beach town far from civilisation and phone reception.

The series’ crew and producers have praised locals at Mission Beach for making them feel welcome.

“The shoot at Mission Beach has been going very very well, thanks largely to the support and cooperation of the Mission Beach locals, with the terrific weather in a crucial supporting role, and I’d be remiss were I not to mention the support of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council - they’ve been terrific,” series producer Tom Hoffie told Cairns Local News.

Locals have been employed as much as possible, Mr Hoffie said, “in what is a pretty specialised business we’ve managed to employ 30 local crew and literally hundreds of extras. I’m sure watching the show will become a game of spot the local around these parts!”

The series will be screened across the United States, Australia and New Zealand and its producers say it will showcase the “extraordinary natural beauty of the area,” with the offshoot benefit of attracting both international and domestic travellers more to the region when borders re-open.

Shooting of Irreverent in Mission Beach will wrap up in late November when the crew relocates to South East Queensland to shoot out the balance of the show into March 2022. It is aimed for completion in the second half of 2022. “Hopefully you’ll see Mission Beach on screen soon after!”
