‘Drunk Mums’ back home
AFTER seven years away, Cairns-born punk rock band Drunk Mums is returning home for two Far North shows later this month.

Now based in Melbourne, the band will headline the Promised Land Revival Concert at the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron on 27 June before performing at the Port Douglas Yacht Club on 28 June.
For guitarist Jake Doyle, the Cairns show is more than just another stop on a tour.
“Yeah, keen as. It’s always good to make it back home,” he said.
“Just psyched that we get to play the cruising yacht squadron, which is a pretty special venue to me anyway.
“That’s where my parents got married back in the day.
“Making it back there ... good memories at the yacht squadron, that’s for sure.”
Drunk Mums formed about 15 years ago and cut their teeth playing at the now-closed Johno’s Blues Bar before relocating to Melbourne in search of bigger opportunities.
Looking back, Mr Doyle said the band’s international success was far from guaranteed.
“No, not at all,” he said when asked whether he expected the group to tour Europe, the United States, Asia, and New Zealand one day.
“It’s been like 15 years now that we’ve been a band and made the move down to Melbourne because of the opportunities that Melbourne has with the venues.
“It was super sad that we lost Johno’s Blues Bar. Got plenty of good memories playing there and coming home and having my guitar smell like cigarettes because I was probably like 15 and they were still smoking in the bars back then.”
Over the years, Drunk Mums has shared stages with a host of Australian acts, including early performances with now internationally recognised bands.
“Amyl and the Sniffers used to support us when they were first starting,” Mr Doyle said.
“We’re good friends with The Chats. They actually supported us as well back when they were first starting.”
The band has released three albums and three EPs, accumulating more than 30 million streams across Spotify, Apple and YouTube.
Mr Doyle said fans attending the Cairns concert could expect “a great day of music” featuring six bands over six hours.
The 27 June show at the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron will feature Drunk Mums, Biong Biong, DVD, Whoodafunkit, JB Paterson and Candice Bliss.
The band will then perform at the Port Douglas Yacht Club on 28 June alongside Biong Biong, DVD and Candice Bliss, marking a long-awaited return to the city where the group first got its start.
