Drive-in launches new film
MAREEBA Drive-In will host a double-feature screening showcasing Far North Queensland filmmaking talent on Sunday 3 May 2026.

The event will feature two films by FNQ writer/director Danial Donái, ‘Deep Red Water’ and ‘The Night Flyers’, alongside a live project launch for a new feature film inspired by the unsolved 1973 rail motor 1819 Kuranda train robbery.
Organised as a public showcase and fundraiser, the event will support the development of the upcoming FNQ-set action thriller ‘John the Revelator’, which draws directly from the Kuranda rail robbery case and is currently in concept production to secure Australian and U.S. feature financing.
It will include open-air screenings, a director Q&A, a live project presentation and displays related to the upcoming film. Organisers say audiences will also see period motorcycles and picture vehicles, character and prop displays tied to the true-story production and live music from local performer Corinda Christie and Band.
It takes place during the Labour Day long weekend, with gates opening at 5.30pm and screenings starting at 7pm. Tickets are $25 per vehicle.
