Donate to new WOW medic van
CAIRNS-based homelessness health service Wheels of Wellness (WOW) is calling on the community to help raise $80,000 to replace its specialist medical outreach van, which has reached the end of its life after more than a decade of service.
The van – a purpose-built mobile medical clinic – has been central to WOW’s mission of delivering free primary healthcare to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across the Cairns region since 2014.
It is fully fitted with a triage room, treatment space, medical bed and solar power, enabling doctors, nurses, social workers, Indigenous health practitioners, and mental health specialists to provide holistic care directly where people need it most.
WOW chief executive officer Jodi Brown said a replacement was urgently needed.
“This van is a mobile clinic that provides lifesaving care to the most vulnerable people in our community,” she said.
“Homelessness in Cairns reaches beyond rough sleeping and affects more than many people realise. WOW regularly supports people couch surfing, living in cars, staying in refuges and even those who are still displaced after losing their homes to Cyclone Jasper.”
