Display explores FATE
EMERGING artists will explore questions of fate, destiny and personal agency in a new Cairns exhibition opening at Crate 59 next month.
The FATE Collective Exhibition will run from 6 to 30 October at Crate 59, 59 Sheridan St, Cairns, with an opening event on 9 October from 6pm to 9pm. Participants include TAFE alumni, emerging artists and TAFE teachers.
The exhibition brings together artists working across different media, each responding to personal interpretations of destiny and questioning whether fate is fixed, fluid or self-made.
Curator Marnie Awram said the exhibition was united by a shared exploration of fate, destiny and personal agency, with artists examining whether lives were shaped by chance, predetermined paths, conscious choices or the capacity to redefine their direction.
While each work reflects an individual artistic voice, the exhibition collectively explores transformation, uncertainty, resilience and becoming. It also invites audiences to consider how individual journeys can be influenced, challenged and reimagined through experience and creative expression.
The project is also intended to provide professional development for artists at the start of their creative careers.
Participating artists have been involved in the various stages of exhibition-making, including responding to the curatorial theme, developing concepts, creating and installing work, presenting it in a public exhibition setting and deinstalling the exhibition.
The collective aims to provide a platform for creative experimentation and public engagement, offering audiences the opportunity to see the work of emerging artists. The works explore chance, choice and transformation through a range of styles and techniques.
TAFE Visual Arts teacher Marnie Awram mentors the project. The exhibition will conclude after its 25-day run at Crate 59 on 30 October.
