Crucial roads reach targets
SEVERAL road reconstruction milestones have been reached across remote and regional areas of Far North Queensland, including the reopening of two lanes on Mossman-Mount Molloy Road and over 1500m of soil nailing on the Mossman -Daintree Road.

Many of the pavement and road repairs on more remote and regional state-controlled roads have now been completed.
Milestone reconstruction works across the region are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) and include:
Mossman-Mount Molloy Road – following the repair of a major downslope landslip, reopening the damaged section of the road to two lanes for the first time since Tropical Cyclone Jasper. Repairs are ongoing at major upslope geotechnical sites near Mossman-Mount Molloy Road lookout
Mossman-Daintree Road – over 1500m of soil nails have been drilled and secured with over 30,000L of grout – enough to fill 200 bathtubs. Stabilisation works are ongoing, with piling works underway.
Endeavour Valley Road – all pavement repairs and backfill works have been completed across multiple damage sites along a 15km stretch of road.
Peninsula Developmental Road – reconstruction works between Lakeland and Laura are more than two-thirds complete with repairs between Laura and Weipa almost finished, pending weather and site conditions. The works including grading, drainage repairs and pavement restoration.
Mulligan Highway – reconstruction works to reinstate a drain and concrete batter are now complete between Mareeba and Mount Molloy.
Tully-Mission Beach Road – works on a 20 m section of a retaining wall in the road reserve were completed earlier this year.
Work at Mossman-Mount Molloy Road and Mossman- Daintree Road will shut down from Friday 19 December 2025 and restart Monday 5 January 2026. Where safe to do so, active work sites will reopen to two lanes over the holiday season, weather permitting and reduced speed limits may be in place.
Transport and Main Roads North Queensland region acting regional director Darryl Jones said restoring and, in some cases, improving regional and remote roads was essential for Far North Queensland communities.
“These regional and rural roads are an important part of the reconstruction program and our efforts to restore Queensland roads to their pre-disaster function following the damage left by Tropical Cyclone Jasper,” he said.
