Crank up the volume
CAIRNS Festival will crank up the volume on Friday, August 29 when HEY DJ takes over with a high-energy tribute to the global force that is hip-hop.
Headlined by the unstoppable YO! MAFIA, who brings 25 years of DJ “herstory” to the stage, this all-out dance party tracks the genre’s journey from Bronx block parties in the 1970s to the international movement it is today. (“Herstory” is a term used to spotlight women’s contributions in fields traditionally dominated by men.)
The 90-minute show blends beats, moves and mic skills with a powerhouse lineup of dancers, breakers, and featured artists Eliza Wolfgramm (The Avalanches) and MC Kirk (Planet, Heaven, Big 90s Show).
Expect a dancefloor riot meets history lesson, packed into a standing-only venue with a full bar and high-energy buzz.
The party kicks off at 8.30pm in Tank 5 at the Tanks Arts Centre, with doors opening from 7.30pm. This is a strictly 18+.
Whether you’re a hip-hop head or just want to move, HEY DJ promises a night of beats, bass, and body movin’.
