The family-friendly fundraising concert, organised by three local mothers and supported by the Free Palestine FNQ movement, aims to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian aid in Gaza.

Building on the success of last year’s debut, the 2025 event will feature 13 acts from across Far North Queensland, including Mau Power, Lucy Gallant, Baila Kaijo, YIRGJHILYA, Z.D.C., The Pad Boys, Phat Love, Mojito, Rainforest Rhythm, RGBeats (a female Palestinian DJ), JC, Satoshi and Stepaside.

Organiser and local mother April (surname withheld) said the idea was born out of despair.

“I fell pregnant just before we organised the first Gig for Gaza last year, and I felt devastated and powerless witnessing Palestinian women giving birth in public toilets, Gazan babies’ corpses rotting alone in bombed hospitals in my newsfeed,” she said.

“We only had a couple of weeks to get the word out, but more than 200 people turned up. This year, judging by ticket sales, we expect two or three times as many people.”

April said she hoped the event would again draw the “conscious people of Far North Queensland” to take a stand.

Hala Abu Hijleh from Free Palestine FNQ said the event showed how music could help amplify solidarity.

“Music has long been a medium of expression for Palestinian identity, serving as a reminder of the past, a resilient force in the present and a pathway to a better future,” she said.

Local artist Lucy Gallant, who will perform a new song written in response to the crisis, said the concert had personal meaning.
