The startup bootcamp - Big Fish - guides young entrepreneurs to develop solutions for problems by participating in two days of workshops and mentoring. The event had an attendance of over 30 young creatives.

Through Big Fish, students aged 13-18 learned the creative process of building a startup from previous Australian Young Innovator of the Year – Taj Pabari.

On day one, participants teamed up to start brainstorming their bright ideas. On day two, teams discovered how to turn those ideas into real business ventures.

Teams learned about prototypes, logos, websites, marketing material, business models, financials, target market validation, and pitches.

Previous Big Fish participant, Naomi said the program opened many opportunities for young people.

“Big Fish is an awesome program that I would definitely recommend for creative and driven teenagers,” she said.

“I loved actually learning about useful skills such as marketing and public speaking, and I had an amazing time meeting new people.”

Big Fish is the perfect school holiday activity to keep kids busy, entertained, and inspired with fun and experimental workshops, inspiring mentors, and a final pitch event with special guest judges.

All participants walk away with new skills, industry and peer connections, future career insights and inspiration.

This year’s Big Fish was at CQU Cairns on Wednesday April 13 and Thursday April 14.

Y(E)P Entrepreneurship Facilitators, AusIndustry, Advance Queensland and CQUniversity fund and support the Big Fish Bootcamp.
