Division Two Councillor Teresa Millwood said Cassowary Coast Regional Council is focused on improving all of our town’s infrastructure and have a high priority of up keeping and improving footpaths which link our residence to facilities such as schools and business areas.

“This footpath is long awaited and will provide the Silkwood community safer access to the school and other local businesses and facilities.

“Funded as part of Works for Queensland 2019/21 and valued at approximately $300,000, the project involved removing the existing bitumen path and concrete barrier kerb and channel and replacing it with a new two metre wide concrete path, new kerb inlet pits and vehicle access crossovers.

“It also included as a new ramp for pram, wheelchair and bike access near the current zebra crossing,” said Cr. Millwood.

The project was constructed in accordance with Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils Development Manual and completed by local contractors QDAC Services PTY LTD.

QDAC and the Cassowary Coast Regional Council would like to thank the Silkwood Community for their patience whilst the project was underway.
